Abstract

In the process of making highly dispersed lead oxide described in the parent Specification by oxidizing heating of lead or litharge to at least a white heat, the gases carrying the dispersed lead oxide are suddenly cooled by at least 500 DEG C., by introducing a cooling medium such as cold air, purified cooled flue gases (i.e. the gases issuing from the apparatus in which the lead oxide is separated) or water. The cooling thus effected may be from 1000 DEG C. to 500-300 DEG C. This cooling prevents the deposition of lead oxide on the walls of the conduits.
