Abstract

228,564. Erban, R. Jan. 30, 1924, [Convention date]. Variable.speed friclion gearing comprises transmission rolling members 3 and other rollers or balls 15, which ride upon cams and so automatically generate the necessary engaging pressure. According to the invention, there is a relationship between the slope of the race member 1 at its active point 11 !and the slope of the incline 16, which is given by a trigonometric formula. Speed changes are effected by tilting the rollers 3, and the presser balls 15 act against a plane annular race 17 on one side. The formula limits the relation between the various slopes at the engaging points 11 and the slope of the incline 16.
