Rolling.-An apparatus for rolling sections such as flats with plane or rounded edges comprises a casing 1 fixed by screws 3 to a fixed front part of the housing of the finishing-rolls 50 and provided with a fixed bearing 6 and a movable bearing 26 carrying edge-rolls 9. The movable roll is adjusted by means of a screw 27 having a squared end 31 and both rolls are driven from a common worm-shaft 36 carrying worms of: opposite hand gearing with worm-wheels 18. The worm-shaft is driven from a shaft actuated either by an auxiliary electric motor or from one of the driving pinions of the finishing-mill. The rolls are driven through clutch members 15, the upper portions of which are slidable through lever mechanism actuated from a handle. Lubricators 48 supply lubricant to the roll-bearings through feed-pipes 49. In operation, the clutches 15 are engaged and a section previously roughed down is conveyed to the rolls 9 between a lower guide 40 and an upper guide comprising a pivoted lever 42 adjustable by means of a stud 45. As soon as the work reaches the finishing pass the higher speed of the finishing rolls causes the clutch portions 13 to overrun the upper portions whereupon the driving-gear of the edge-rolls is manually disengaged.
