Abstract
227,722. Hocking, H. June 19, 1924. Separating by gravity.-Water containing oil or grease is delivered in an upward direction into a vessel provided near the water level with a grid or chambered device adapted to prevent waves or splashing at the surface, the device being especially useful on board ship. The vessel 1 is provided with vertical plates 5 which cross one another so as to form chambers open at top and bottom. The plates may be at right angles to one another or be formed in honey-combed shape. The mixed liquids are admitted at the bottom of the vessel and rise through a perforated plate 6. Oil separates on the top and water passes down a funnel 3<x> and conduit 3 to a chamber 9 provided with a filter. A float operated signal 18 is provided on a vessel 15 into which water overflows when the filter is clogged.
