227,207. Filma Oil Burners, Ltd., and Marsden, A. Oct. 13, 1923. Spray burners.-An auxiliary steam-generating apparatus for supplying steam for atomizing purposes to the oil burners of the furnaces of steam boilers &c. on starting up consists of an annular steam and water drum 1 which is temporarily or permanently pivoted to a bracket 16 on the furnace front, and carries headers 2, 3 connected by cross tubes 4 and nests of tubes 5. The auxiliary steam generator is heated initially by a vapour burner 10 burning paraffin from a pressure tank 11 after passage through a vaporizing coil 12. When steam is generated and the main burner is in operation, the auxiliary steam generator may be swung on its pivot 15 into the main burner flame, after which the burner 10 is extinguished. When the main steam supply becomes available the auxiliary steam generator may be removed. The drum 1 is fitted with a water injector, a water gauge, a pressure gauge, and a safety valve. The Provisional Specification states that the auxiliary steam generating apparatus is heated initially by burning at the main burner a mixture of light and crude oils atomized by compressed air supplied by a foot-pump. When the main steam supply becomes available a portion of the steam may be conducted to the burner through the auxiliary steam generator apparatus, which then acts as a superheater.
