Abstract

225,564. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Compagnie Francaise pour l'Exploitation des ProcÚdÚs Thomson-Houston). Nov. 28, 1923, [Convention date]. Alternating-current motors; driving-arrangements. - Two alternating - current motors are mechanically and electrically connected so as to compound their rates of revolution additively or subtractively according to the electrical conditions. In one example, a commutator motor A<2> carries mounted on its shaft the primary member B<1> of an induction motor, the secondary member of which transmits the compounded revolutions to a shaft D. In addition to the mechanical coupling, tappings from the secondary of the motor A<2> feed current to a three-phase primary winding of the other motor B<1> and variations of speed are obtained by connecting the commutator brushes of the motor A<2> to different sections of the primary. In other combinations, movable brushes on the one motor feed current to the primary of the second motor, the frequency of the current varying with the position of the brushes. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), describes combinations of machines wherein the motors have exclusively mechanical coupling through bevel gearing rope. and pulley mechanism &c. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
