Alternating-current commutator and induction machines.-To obtain relatively high slip values with power-factor improvement on all loads, a series commutator machine electrically and mechanically coupled with an induction motor is provided with means responsive to the slip frequency for moving its brushes into a position where it operates as a motor when the load increases, or from a position where the brushes are biassed and the commutator machine functions as a self-excited generator. The slip regulator G comprises a squirrel-cage motor fed through a transformer T and connected by a cord L to the brush-carrier C which is biassed by a spring R into the generator position of the machine B.
