Abstract

224,756. Jones, J. Jan. 12, 1924. Strengthened handles; fixing by self-grip sockets and tangs of special form.-Tool handles of the type having axial ejecting means, are provided with an axial ejecting rod having a specially shaped end on the taper tang of the tool. As shown in Fig. 1 the taper tang of the tool A is fixed in the socket B of the handle C, and its end is formed' V-shaped to engage a V-notch in the end of the axial ejecting rod D. Various other forms are described, including a circular projection D<1>, Fig. 3, on rod D enaging a hole A<1> in the tang; or the projection D<1> may be square or polygonal in section to engage a corresponding hole or slot in the end of the tang. In a further modification a hole is formed in the end of the rod to receive a correspondingly shaped projection on the end of the tang. The socket B may be provided with prongs X which are driven into the wood of the handle.
