Sliding-weight apparatus. - In a weighing- apparatus of the type, employing a steelyard the sliding poise is provided with an operating member so arranged that a weighing can only be effected when the poise is located at a graduation or in a positioning notch. The steelyard 4 is mounted on a fulcrum 3 and carries a poise 7 sliding on a notched bar 5. Beneath the steelyard is a hand-operated shaft 13 capable of sliding horizontally along a slot 18 but capable of rotation only at the enlargements 20. With the shaft in the position shown, a cam 23 thereon supports a parallel-motion bar 24 which holds the steelyard in an horizontal position, and a second cam 16 supports the poise 7 with its nib 9 clear of the notches 6. A projection 17 on the cam 16 is situated between pins 11, 12 on the poise. To adjust the poise the shaft 13 is moved along the slot 18 to one of the enlargements 20 and is then rotated through 90‹, thus allowing the bar 24 to release the steelyard, removing the cam 16 from beneath the poise, and by means of the projection 17, positioning the nib 9 in the notch. A cable 31 connected to the shaft 13 actuates an indicator 30 in usual manner.
