Printed and permanent records, apparatus for giving.-In a recording weighing machine of the kind having a steelyard fitted with hand-operated poise weights equipped with type-locating mechanism, the customary hand-operated minor poise weight is replaced by a combined automatic weighing resistant and type-numeral locating- mechanism for counterbalancing and recording the minor increment of weight. The arrangement may be adapted to the weighing machine described in Specification 28626/12 wherein a record can only be obtained after the steelyard has been brought to equilibrium and enclosed by a shutter. As shown, the steelyard 1 mounted on a fulcrum 1<a> is provided with two major poise weights 2, 7 connected by the usual racks to type wheels 6, 8. The minor order of weight is balanced by an automatic resistant, for example a spring 13 connected to the steelyard bv levers 21<a>, 16 and a rod 19. A weaker spring 19<b> may act in opposition to the spring 13. On the fulcrum of the lever 21a is secured a type sector 21. By depressing the printing lever 11 a record may be obtained on a ticket 12. Ratchet teeth 29 on the type sector, and a lever 30 connected to the printing handle ensure alignment of the type. Two fixed pointers 26, 27, and an index 29a on the steelyard indicate to the operator the range of the automatic resistant. Graduations 21<d> indicate the minor weight readings. The type sector may carry, beyond the type figures, hieroglyphics designed to intimate when printed, that the record is fallacious. When the arrangement is adapted to the steelyard-enclosing shutter device described in Specification 28626/12, the shutter (not shown) is connected by a rod 33a to a locking bolt 33. If the steelyard is situated within the range of the automatic resistant, that is, equilibrium is correctly established, the locking bolt enters a gap 34 during the shutter-closing movement and permits a record to be obtained.
