Abstract

An elapsed time recorder comprises a workmans record card holder 24 and two hammers 26, 27 each pivotally mounted on a shaft 28, a printing disc 25, having thereon two radially spaced graduated time scales 98, 100, rotatable once in 48 hours by a clock 94, and means including "IN" and "OUT" levers (only one 18 being shown) for bringing the card into contact with the disc. For "clocking in" a card is placed in the recorder and "IN" lever 18 is depressed. A stop 122 on the lever effects upward movement of an inking roll 108 in a guide 111, and simultaneously the outer hammer 26 which is connected via pin 47 and link 130 to the lever is moved towards the disc, the pin 47 also engaging with a notch 45 in a support of the holder. Such action also effects upward movement of a shield 48 slidably mounted on holder 24 to bring an arcuate slot 56 in the shield into register with contact face 78 of the hammer 26, so that indicia 98 only is printed on the card. The hammer 27 is moved similarly when the "OUT" lever (20) (Fig. 1, not shown) is depressed, a pin 46 connecting the hammer 27 to an associated link moves in slot 72 of a support of the hammer 26. The card is then brought into engagement with the indicia 100. The card carries an indicator line a, b, and the contact face of the hammer 26 is shaped (Fig. 3, not shown) so that an arrow X and a small portion of the time scale 98 are printed on the card. The hammer 27 has a contact face of a size such that an arcuate section of a graduated time scale 100 is printed on the card. The portion of the scale 100 between the indicator line and the arrow indicates the elapsed time. The time is also indicated by disc 14 through a slot (16) (Fig. 1, not shown).
