Abstract
223,790. Smith, A. B. F. Feb. 4, 1924. Sliding doors for airship sheds &c. Relates to doors having guided sliding uprights and pairs of hinged panels between each two uprights. According to the invention, the hinged joints between the panels and between each panel and upright 1 have knuckle-shaped coverings formed by extending the metal of the panels &c. as shown at 11, 11<a>, Fig. 4, and 12, 13, Fig. 6, to exclude weather, fire &c. and resist wind pressure. The uprights may be strengthened bv diagonal braces 29, Fig. 9, pivoted to one upright and having a pin-and-slot connection with the second. Buffer springs 35, Fig. 11, are attached to the panels by a rivet &c. 36 at one end and a pin-and-slot connection at the other end, subsidiary springs 39 being provided if necessary. A tie between adjacent panels may consist of a link 23 and plates 27, Fig. 7, pivotally connected to plates 6, 6<a> on the panels. Operating-means for the doors is shown diagrammatically in Fig. 13, and consists of a drum and cable, outward and return cables being secured to the uprights 1 above and below. The cables may be protected by a length of piping &c. 47.
