Abstract

229,391. Wylie, H. N. Nov. 21, 1923. Folding doors.-A door for aircraft sheds &c. comprises a plurality of panel members hinged to each other about horizontal axes, the arrangement being such that when the hinges are ra.ised the panels fold against each other and that when lowered the panels are inclined to each other and form a hinged arch structure for resisting wind forces. The door usually consists of three panels A, B, C hinged together on horizontal pivots a, b, the top panel C being hinged by a pivot c to the lintel D. The panel C carries a triangular frame E, over the apex d of which passes a lifting-rope F, which is connected to the pivot a and passes rearwards to the lintelsupporting stay G. The rope F is led through a guide tube H which act as a stop for the frame E and hence determines the topmost position of the folded door. A check rope J connecting the end of the guide tube H and the point d determines the lower position of the point d. The gaps between successive doors may be covered with canvas flaps and links x, y, Fig. 3, or the doors may be shaped to avoid such gaps. The doors may be made of metal frames covered with canvas.
