Abstract
223,437. Blackburn Aeroplane & Motor Co., Ltd., and Rennie, J. D. Dec. 17, 1923. Frames and framing. - In a metal hull for flying boats, fore-and-aft deep transverse frames 18 the exterior edges of which are notched to accommodate longitudinals 17 are connected by linings 22 terminating in feathered extensions 23, this construction serving to distribute shocks and strains received from contact with the water. The frames 18 are in the way of and are respectively connected to the fore and aft spars of the wings. The bottom of the hull is cellular and comprises a triangular keel 2 terminating in a rubbing- strip 4 the base of the triangle being extended at 6 and flanged to conform. to the dehedral angle of the boat. The box - section longitudinals are secured to the interior of the bottom are spaced apart by transverse intercostal members 10. The bottom is formed of a series of concave longitudinal plates 9, supported by the longitudinals 8, the inner edges of the inner strip being secured to the keel and the outer edges of the outer strip being secured to the lower edge of the bell shaped hull. The transverse frames intermediate of the deep frames 18 are shallower and likewise notched to accommodate the longitudinals 17.
