Abstract
5707. Motte, R. C. April 16. Pressed-metal boats; floats for aerial machines; hydroplane vessels.-The hull of a seaplane float or of a boat is pressed from sheet metal in one or more pieces, the metal blanks previously having parts cut away so that their front and rear edges conform to the shape of the stem and stern of the body when pressed. The edges are subsequently riveted or otherwise secured together or to a strengthening-rib C, Fig. 3, of metal or wood passing between and forming a stem or stern post. The rib may also form an external keel, or it may lie within an integrally-pressed keel D, or form an internal strengthening-rib. The intermediate part of the rib may be flanged for securing it to the adjacent plates. Boat-shaped bodies may be built up of two pressed plates F, G, Fig. 8, with an horizontal division, or with a vertical division as shown in Fig. 10. In the latter case, the meeting edges may be provided with internal flanges, or with external flanges K which are embraced by a channel-section keel C or secured in a keel C of the section shown in Fig. 11.
