Abstract

An 'Add On' door facia panel (10) comprises of a moulded or pressed panel which can be produced in a variety of styles, finishes, colours and sizes. The panel can be attached directly to an existing door by various fixing methods which are available. The panel, when fitted will give a completely new look to an old or damaged door without the need to completely renew the door. The panel can be applied to the outer surface of both external and internal doors. It can be produced in materials which would give little or no maintenance properties. It can be cut to size and drilled etc, it can be applied to steel, wooden or plastic constructed doors, either hinged single and double doors, up and over garage doors, or any doors used in domestic dwellings or in commercial buildings. <IMAGE>

Description

'ADD ON' DOOR FACIA PANEL This invention relates to an 'Add Onl door facia panel.
Steel, wooden or plastic constructed doors, hinged, single and double doors, all doors both internal and external, relating to private dwellings and commercial buildings, are quite often damaged,or, through normal wear and tear are in need of refurbishment, or are out of character with newly renovated buildings.
To replace these doors or to refurbish them, is very often expensive and can be labour intensive and therefor costly.
With this invention, the need to renew the door or to refurbish the outer surface of the door is no longer necessary.
The desired result can now be acheived by adding a new 'facia Panel' directly onto the outer surface of the existing door.
A specific example of this application of the 'Add On' facia panel would be, where a steel up and over garage door has been subject to external damage and is in need of replacement, or is required to be up dated to improve the appearance of the building frontage.
This example can be seen by means of the following illustrations in which: Figure 1 illustrates the existing door.
Figure 2 illustrates the existing door with a typical style 'Add On' facia panel fitted to the outer surface of the door.
Refering to the drawing, the 'Add On' door facia panel comprises of a impermeable moulded or pressed panel (10) which can be attatched to the outer surface or surfaces of existing doors (11) by means of a bonding agent(12) or by the use of other fixing methods available, eg: by rivetting or by the use of concealed screws.
The first method described, being the one refered to on the accompanying drawing, Fig.2.
The facia panel would be designed to suit both exterior and interior doors of steel, wooden or plastic construction.
These types of doors being, hinged, single and double doors, stable type half doors, up and over garage doors, doors used in kitchen or wardrobe type units, or any doors used in domestic dwellings or in commercial buildings.
It can be manufactured in a variety of materials to suit any application as previously mentioned above.
An example of this would be where an external door is required to be fitted with a facia panel, the facia panel would be manufactured in a material which would have the characteristics and capability to withstand the various weather conditions encountered.
It would also have the benefit of having little or no maintenance characteristics.
Where a internal door is fitted with the facia panel, the panel would be manufactured in a material which would require no painting or varnishing, or may be manufactured in a material which would exhibit fire retardant characteristics for use in safety applications.
The 'Add on' door facia panel would be manufactured in a variety of styles, finishes, colours and sizes to accomodate the existing potential application.
The facia panel would be capable of being cut, drilled, pierced or machined to fit the existing door furniture such as handles, locks, or where applicable letter boxes.
