Abstract

A Panel Door Kit contains various lengths of material which when applied to a flush door will make it look like a manufactured panelled door.

Description

SPECIFICATION D.I.V. panel door kit Most houses built over the past 20 years have been fitted internally with flush doors. Until recently, it has been popular in design, decor and price to have varnished or painted plain flush doors.
A flush door is an unpanelled plain door.
A panelled door is a door that is assembled from various shapes and sizes of wood with panels exposed.
Figure 1 shews a two-panel, a four-panel and a six panel-door.
I have now devised a method by which a flush door can be made to look like a panelled door, without the need to remove the door from the door frame.
Using this invention and mehtod, the 'pannelling' can be achieved with only a very basic skill in carpentry.
Fig. Nos. (1) to (7) relate to attached drawings.
This kit consists of various lengths and sizes of timber so designed that they only need to be cut to the required lenth and fixed to the door as per the instructions supplied. Varnished or painted and the door will look like a manufactured panel door.
The number and style of panels will be determined by the type of kit, i.e., two-panel, fourpanel, six-panel or eight-panel.
An example of a kit to make a four-panel door is as follows: The Kit consists of2 lengths of timber 3/8"x4"x6'9" 3 lengths of timber 3/8"x4"x3' 1 lengths of timber 3/8"x6"x3' 1 lengths of timber 3/8" x 8" x 3' 8 lengths of architrave 1'6" long )one end of each 8 lengths of architrave 3' long )piece of architrave )is mitred at 450 1 set of instructions.
1) Remove all embellishments from the surface of the door to be panelled.
2) Fix one length of timber flush with the hinge edge as in Fig. 2. Saw off the overlap.
3) Use the 8"/3' timber for the bottom horizontal. Measure, mark and cut as in Fig. 3.
Use the 6" x 3' timber for the middle horizontal and a 4" X 3' for the top. Measure, mark and cut as for the bottom horizontal Fig. 3.
4) Fix and position horizontals as in Fig. 4.
5) Take the remaining 6'9" lenght of timber and fix as in Fig. 5. Saw off overlap.
6) Measure and cut the remaining two lengths of 4"x3', then position and fix as in Fig. 6.
7) Using a 450 marker, mark and cut architrave to fit inside panels and fix as in Fig. 7.
The method of assembly described is to panel the outside of a door. To panel the inside, the procedure is the same except that the 6'9" lengths of timber are not fixed flush with the edge of the door. The difference will be shewn in the instructions.
1. A kit comprising of a package containing all the lengths and sizes of timber and instruction for assembly, to achieve the effect of a manufactured panelled door upon unpanelled flush door.
2. Timber as in claim 1 is to mean Wood, Timber, Composition Board, Chipboard, Laminated Plywood or Blockboard of the length and sizes with which, if the instructions are followed, a panelled door effect will be achieved.
