Abstract

A garage door cover comprising a display side and a non display side. The cover is designed to conceal various pipes and apparatus for a solar power heating system. A solar panel located on the display (external) side of the garage door cover heats water in pipes. Alternatively the pipes may be connected to the central heating system of the house to run heating through the pipes to heat the garage. A method of covering a garage door is also claimed. The cover may also be used to improve the aesthetic look of the garage door or cover insulating materials located between the cover and the garage door. An embodiment includes a garage door with heating pipes and solar panels built in.

Description

Apparatus and Method for Covering a Garage Door
Field of the Invention
The invention relates to garage door covers and methods of covering garage doors to conceal various pipes, and apparatus including both solar powered and conventional types of heating and insulating materials which are environmentally friendly, and also to give a cosmetic makeover with a veneer to upgrade a basic design garage door to a more expensive design.
Background of the Invention
Many residential properties include a garage for storage. Garages typically have a large garage door of a standard size which can be opened manually or automatically to allow a car to be stored therein. Because of their size and construction, garage doors can be expensive to replace. As such, when wanting to improve the look of a garage door, a common approach is to apply a coat of paint.
Summary of the Invention
There is a garage door cover comprising of either a single sheet or multi piece sheet to cover the garage door with a display side and a non display side. The garage door covers are to have a reverse moulding when compared to an existing garage door profile to allow the cover to sit flush. It can also be produced in a normal profile configuration to allow for extra insulation thickness between the existing door and cover in certain applications. The method of fixing can vary including high bond fixing by the insulation foam and also various methods of mechanical fixing including blind/pop rivets, counter sink screws, double sided adhesive tape and will also include the use of edge trims to conceal these methods of fixing for cosmetic effect.
There is also an attachment to fit solar panels in appropriate climatic conditions to also heat the enclosed pipes/charge batteries etc. The pipe work would be connected by recoil flexi pipes to either central heating systems to produce a heated surface on the inside of the garage/study/playroom and the insulation and veneer would help to reduce any heat loss alternatively in the appropriate climate conditions to be fitted over the insulation and underneath the veneer to allow for solar heating of the water contained in the pipes. This could then be piped into the domestic hot water system via a storage tank for washing and bathing facilities.
Other Possible Applications Please see attached drawings.
The veneers would be made using mould/aluminium vacuum forming tool with a interchangeable top section to produce various different designs i.e. Georgian, Marquess and Sunburst.
Brief description of the Drawings
The present invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the drawings that follow; in which: Figure la is a front view of a standard (new or existing) garage door with horizontal rib design before fitting a pipe.
Figure 1 b is a side elevation of a standard garage door with pipes 11 fitted on the garage door.
This is an embodiment employing Method A, wherein an existing central heating system is used to heat the pipes.
Figure 2 shows a front view of a standard garage door with pipes fitted, wherein the pipes are polyethylene heating pipes 21 that are connected to recoil flexi pipes 22, wherein the pipes are also connected to a thermostatic mixing valve 23A,23B and a service valve 24A,24B. In an embodiment employing Method A, the pipes connect to the thermostatic missing valve 23A and the service valve 24A in a manner appropriate for establishing a connection with an existing heating system. In an alternative embodiment employing Method B, wherein the water pipes are fitted on the front face of the garage door under a veneer for solar heating of the water contained in the pipes, and the thermostatic missing valve 23B and the service valve 24B are connected in a manner suitable for the solar heating arrangement.
Figure 3a shows a front view of a standard garage door covered with GRP/ABS veneer.
Figure 3b shows a side view of the standard garage door of Figure 3a, wherein a veneer 31 covers over an isocyanate free insulation layer 32, wherein the heating pipes 33 are fitted near the front face of the garage door, wherein the back face of the garage door panel 34 transfers heat into the garage, playroom or study etc. This is an embodiment employing Method A. In an alternative embodiment employing Method B, the water pipes are fitted near the veneer 31, 50 solar heating can occur.
