Abstract

222,645. Baxter, W. L. Sept. 6, 1923. Catches, automatic ; fastenings operated mechanically from a distance.-A catch for gates &c. is pivoted between the arms of a folded plate forming the support for the pivot and has a slot the entrance to which normally coincides with the entrance to a slot in the bracket so that an arm on the gate can engage in the slots and tilt the catch to secure the gate. The catch e pivoted to the folded bracket a at f has a slot normally in the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. The bracket has a slot d. When the gate is swung to, a curved horizontal projecting arm j on it enters the slot d and hits the edge g of one of the sides of the slot in the catch e causing this to rock over on its pivot and secure the rod by the other edge h of its slot. The ca,tch e is released by the cord m or by a rod q passing through the gate and pivoted to an extension o in the catch. The cord m may be attached to a cord running the length of a railway coach so that the device may be applied to release railway carriage doors simultaneously.
