Trap nests.-The sliding door c to the entrance of a trap nest a, as it is raised from the set position by the animal entering, positively displaces a catch so that the door drops and closes the entrance. This door has two screws, nails, pegs, or the like d, e, spaced one above the other and co-operating with a catch h pivoted on a rod q journaled in fixed parts of the nest front so that when the door is raised by the animal the lower peg d contacts with the inclined face i of the catch and forces it out of the path of the upper peg e which rests on the catch in the set position of the door. The latter thereupon drops and closes the entrance. To retain the door permanently open it is raised until the lower peg rests on the top of the catch, and the entrance opening may be varied for animals of different size by adjusting the position of these pegs on the door. The top peg may be replaced by a notch, and the door with its guideways and release mechanism may be made as a separate unit for applying to any box, shed, or enclosure.
