Abstract

Crank - actuated pumps.-In a multicylinder engine pump or compressor the pistons are arranged in pairs, those of each pair being connected to the opposite ends of a beam H driving an oscillating shaft C. The shaft C is connected to a Z-crankshaft by a universal coupling E. The pistons are at right angles to the plane containing the axes of the shafts C, A and are offset laterally with respect to the crankshaft. In the case of a four cylinder engine the cylinders are so arranged that that centre of gravity of two pistons and connecting-rods which move in the same direction coincides with that of the other two pistons and rods which move in an opposite direction.
