Abstract
220,000. Wood, W. R. Aug. 1, 1923, [Convention date]. Impact pulverizers.-Relates to pulverizers of the kind comprising wheels or discs with pins or projections and mounted on coaxial shafts revolving in opposite directions. The impact surfaces are provided by radial openings in concentric flanges on the faces of the oppositely-revolving discs so as to minimize the consumption of power due to churning the air. The wheels 9, 10, Fig. 1, mounted on oppositely-rotating shafts 14, 15 have U-shaped flanges 11, 12 at their peripheries, which are complementary so that the two wheels can be nested as shown. The coal &c. is fed through an inlet 18 in the casing member 7 by a screw-feeder 19 driven through gearing from the shaft 14 and is first struck by the radial &c. ribs or blades 26 on the wheel 9 and then passes through openings 27, 28, Fig. 4, in the inner leg 11<a> of the flange 11. The inner and outer legs 12<a>, 12<b> of the flange 12 and the outer leg 11<b> of the flange 11 have a number of radial openings 30 enlarged at the entrance. The pulverized coal &c. is discharged tangentially into the casing A and works around the annular space 34 into the space 35 between the casing member 8 and wheel 10 and thence into the circular or helical discharge channel 36. Air is admitted through an inlet 37 fitted with a valve 38. Ribs 39 on the outer face of the wheel 10 assist the pulverized coal &c. to enter the channel 36.
