Abstract

219,912. Herbert, Sir A., and Lloyd, A. H. April 28, 1924. Stud - boxes have sockets threaded to engage the studs and antifriction or deformable bearing-members for engagement with the ends of the studs. The bearing-member may be a pad C, of antifriction or Babbitt metal cast into an undercut recess B<6>, rotation of the pad being prevented by keys B' entering entering holes drilled in the end wall of the socket. The shank B<4> is adapted to be rotated by a hand wrench &c. or a machine and is provided with a driving keyway or flat B<5>. In a modification, the bearing-member is in the form of a ball race, in which case either the lower member of the race is cup-shaped to fit the end of the stud or else the balls make contact directly with the stud and the socket.
