Abstract
219,538. Fielding, J. Oct. 4, 1923. Flanging; dies.-In a hydraulic press for flanging metal plates of the type in which the outer die J<1> is carried on a fixed girder B and the inner die J on a girder A moved downwardly by overhead rams and in which the plate is gripped by a die or plate I on a second girder C moved beneath the fixed girder by auxiliary rams, the auxiliary cylinders E are seated on flanges at the sides of the fixed girder B so that they may be conveniently accessible and in order to reduce the depth of the pit foundations for the press. The auxiliary rams D work upwards and have cross heads connected by tie rods F to the girder C. The plate is placed on the outer die and clamped against the die J by the plate I through supplementary thrust rods H and thrust pieces G. During flanging, the plate I serves as the bottom of the outer die and on withdrawal of the die J discharges the flanged plate.
