Abstract

219,109. Paton, A. April 25, 1923. Interconnecting guard with starting-gear.-In dough-kneading machines, the cover C is locked while the machine is in motion and the starting-handle I is locked when the cover is open by the use of a block F secured to the framing and having two intersecting holes H<1>, H<2> in which slide rods H, E connected respectively to the lever and cover. The rod E is pivoted to a crank D secured on the end of the hinge-pin A moving with the cover, and the rod H engages a slot in the lever I. Both rods cannot pass through the block F at the same time. In a modification, the rod E is pivoted directly to the cover so as to rise as the cover is lifted, the rod H registering with a hole in the rod E when the cover is closed. Additional security for the cover is provided by a rod K sliding in guides in the cover and pressed by the rod H, when the machine is started, into engagement with a hole in a bracket J on the frame. In this operation the rod H slides through a second fixed bracket J and provides an additional lock for the cover. In order to prevent the insertion of fingers, if it should be possible to lift the cover slightly while the machine is in motion, a flap L is so hinged to the cover edge as to be movable only towards the body of the machine.
