Abstract

218,099. Wade, F. R. June 23, 1923. Connecting-rods.-Connecting-rods for internalcombustion engines &c. are made of cast aluminium, or other metal or alloy, reinforced by wires, rods, strips or bars of steel or other metal. When the rod is of H-section, the wire c, or perforated sheet or strip metal, is preferably embedded in the flanges c and coiled round the bearing b at the small end. The bearing may be in the form of a tube of phosphor bronze, steel, or other metal or alloy, around which the metal is cast. The wire c is fixed at the big end by forming helices around the bolt holes. A sleeve of hard metal may be embedded in the head for the bolts. The cap i is similarly reinforced. According to the Provisional Specification, six pieces of wire may be used.
