Abstract

216,979. Dawkins, T. C. March 27, 1923. Sweepers.-Apparatus for sweeping railway stations and other buildings, of the kind comprising a frame 1 running on a pair of brushdriving wheels 10 and a single castor-wheel 37, is detachably connected to a motor truck 5, by bolts 3, Fig. 4, engaging a pair of arms 2 extending forwardly of the sweeper frame. The brush 8 and its driving spur-wheels 13, 14 are supported by bars 15 adjustable vertically on each side of the frame by cross-connected screwgears 17 operated by a hand-wheel 23. The dust receptacle is in the form of a shallow tilting hood 24, which is recessed to fit closely over the brush and has openings 25 through which the dust is impelled when the sweeper is either being pushed or drawn by the truck. The dust is discharged through a door 27 when the hood is tilted to the position shown in Fig. 3 by rotating a screw through a hand-wheel 33, the nut 30 being carried by a bell-crank 31 having a pin- and-slot engagement with the hood.
