Gases and vapours, electrically precipitating suspended particles from.-A membrane arranged in the wall of a precipitation chamber transmits externally applied vibration or percussion to the discharge or collecting electrodes. In one arrangement the membrane 4 is attached to the spring- controlled core of a solenoid 6 and connected by an insulator 8 to a frame 9 suspended by links 10 and carrying the discharge electrodes 3, which are situated within tubular collecting-electrodes 2. An interrupted current passes through the solenoid 6. In another arrangement the membrane is below the frame, which is preferably vertically movable on its supports and is struck by the insulator when the solenoid and core move upwards. In another modification the frame is struck by a falling weight released electromagnetically. The vibration or percussion may also be produced manually or by motors. The membrane may be mounted within a laading-in insulator.
