Abstract

721,846. Electrostatic filters. LODGE-COTTRELL, Ltd. July 1, 1953 [July 24, 1952]. No. 18809/52. Class 39 (1). In an electrostatic precipitator, the collecting electrodes, or groups of electrodes, are mounted separately and are provided at their lower ends with rapping members each comprising a hammer disposed on one side of, an anvil disposed on the opposite side of, and both being adjustably secured to, one electrode or to a group of electrodes. The hammer of one electrode or group of electrodes contacts the anvil of the adjacent electrode or groups of electrodes so that by rapping one electrode or group of electrodes the rapping force is transmitted to the adjacent electrode or group of electrodes. As shown, the collecting electrodes 1 consist of a number of channels suspended vertically in rows and connected together at their lower ends by flat strips 2. At the bottom end each row of channels is provided with rapping members 4 each consisting of a screw threaded rod 5 carrying a rounded hammer head 6 at one end, and a flat anvil head 7 at the other end. The end rapping member of a series is actuated by means of a rapping rod 15 which is struck by an anvil 24. A rubber diaphragm 22 provides a seal between the rod 15 and the channel wall. A spring 41 is provided at the other end of the series. The anvil 24 may be struck by a hammer which is pivotally mounted, and arranged to be reciprocated by means of a rotatable arm carrying a cam roller. The roller strikes an arm rigid with the hammer, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown).
