Abstract
464,192. Electrical precipitation apparatus. LODGE - COTTRELL, Ltd. (Siemens Lurgi-Cottrell-Elektrofilter-Ges. fur Forschung und Patentverwertung) Sept. 10, 1936, No. 24730. [Class 39 (i)] In apparatus for the electrical precipitation of suspended particles from gases of the kind in which the gas to be cleaned is first charged in an electrical field and subsequently passes into a non-discharging field where the suspended particles are precipitated, the high tension electrodes of the second or precipitating stage are not connected directly to a source of high tension current, but are charged inductively from the high tension electrodes of the first or charging stage. As shown, the apparatus comprises a chamber 1 in which charging takes place between high tension electrodes 4 and earthed electrodes 6, a chamber 3 in which coalescing of the particles takes place, and a chamber 2 in which a non-discharging field is created between high tension electrodes 7 and earthed electrodes 8 for precipitating the charged particles. The electrodes 7 are charged inductively from the electrodes 4 and for this purpose a member 11 carrying points 9 is connected-to the electrodes 4. Preferably the position of the member 11 is adjustable to vary the charge on the electrodes 8.
