Abstract

701,855. Electrostatic filters. HEINRICH, D. O. Dec. 6, 1951, No. 28605/51. Class 39(1) [Also in Group XXXV] A two-stage electrostatic precipitator having a charging zone with discharge electrodes 1 and non- discharge electrodes 3 and a precipitation zone with collecting electrodes 5, has a set of movable electrodes 2 at the same potential as the discharge electrodes 1, adjustable towards or away from the discharge electrodes for varying the current in the charging zone. The electrodes 2 are adjusted by means of the motor 9 and turn-buckle arrangement 8. The electrodes 2 may be discharge or non- discharge electrodes. As shown they are non- discharge electrodes in the form of flat boxes. A circuit is provided, [see Group XXXV], for comparing the current emitted from the discharge electrodes 1 with the sum of the currents flowing through the non-discharge electrodes 3 and the collecting electrodes 5. and in the event of unbalance, such as due to the decrease of the collecting electrode current by reason of the accumulation of charges, to drive the motor 9 forwards or in reverse and so automatically to restore balance.
