Abstract

809,397. Electrostatic precipitation. PHOENIX-RHEINROHR AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT VEREINIGTE HUTTEN - UND ROHRENWERKE. May 15, 1957 [May, 15, 1956], No. 15449/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(1). In a process for removing dust from industrial waste gases, when the dust particles are extremely fine and electrically charged, the dust-laden gas is led in succession through at least two electric alternating fields of different voltages and frequencies which are preferably adapted to the charge and velocity of the dust particles, whereby the fine dust particles unite to form larger particles which may be removed from the gas by known electrical or mechanical purifying plants. The gas is preferably led in succession through alternating fields with increasing voltage and decreasing frequency, the number of alternating fields depending on the limits within which the charge and velocity of the particles vary. Each of the alternating fields may be established between two grid-like electrodes spaced from one another in the direction of flow of the gas. Each grid electrode may consist of a metal ring covered with wire mesh or four concentric metal rings connected together by electrically-conducting radial spokes.
