Abstract
593,356. Electrical precipitation apparatus. STURTEVANT ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., WAGNER, H. W., and GUEILIKMAN, M. July 17, 1944, No. 13607. [Class 39 (i)] An electrostatic precipitator comprising electrodes 1 and 2 in a container 3 is provided with rapping means for the electrodes comprising a rod passing through the wall of the container and an oscillating hammer outside the container which is moved back by a rotating cam against spring action and then released to rap the rod which transmits the shock to the electrodes. The electrodes 1, which are tubular, have members 9 secured near their bottom ends, to which are securing rapping rods that extend to the hammers 45. The electrodes 2, which are wires, have weights 26 at their lower ends to stabilize them and are suspended from grids 22 connected by insulators 23 to earth potential grids 24. These latter are rapped by rods in co-operation with further hammers 45. In an alternative arrangement the earth potential grids are dispensed with and wires 2 hang from grids 56 which are directly rapped by rods 65. These are operated by hammers 72 similar to hammers 45. As the rapping mechanism is at electrode potential an insulating coupling 88 is inserted in the driving shaft for the hammers. Specification 593,399 is referred to.
