Abstract

Saddles.-A shock-absorbing device for the saddles or seats of cycles comprises upper and lower members B, A, Fig. 2, connected by parallel arms of two bent levers C, C' having free ends which are connected by a spring, pneumatic device, &c. The levers may be arranged so that their free ends move apart when the members A, B approach each other, the movement being resisted by a tension spring, or, as shown in Fig. 2, the arrangement may be such that the free ends of the levers approach each other, a compression spring I being used in this case. The. compression spring may be enclosed in a telescoping easing K, L provided with a spring-controlled valve M, Fig. 3, to regulate escape of air from the casing. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the members A, B are connected by a bent lever C' and a link parallel to one arm thereof, while a second bent lever C pivoted to the member A has one arm connected by a spring H to the free end of the lever C', and the other arm connected by a rod V to the member B.
