Abstract

Detaching from, and attaching to, permanent hubs.-The invention relates to motor car wheels which are held in place with the aid of spring bolts, and has for its object means whereby a wheel can be attached to or detached from this axle or hub bv hand without the use of tools. Fig. 1 shows the application to one of the rear wheels of a motor car. An inner hub a is splined on the axle and is held in place by a nut c. The wheel hub e is provided with holes to receive driving pins d projecting from the axle. The wheel is held in place by a cup f which screws on to the hub a and is prevented from unscrewing by spring bolts j which engage in holes e<2> in the wheel. The arrangement of the spring bolts is shown separately in Fig. 6. A sleeve g in which the bolt fits slidingly is screwed into the flange f<1> of the cap f and is rovided with a recessed slot h to receive a pin k on the bolt. The bolt can be manipulated bv a head l, the pin k lodging in one end or the other of the slot according as it is pushed in by its spring, so as to secure the cap, or drawn out. so as to remove it. In a modification, webs. formed in the inner hub engage in the channels. in the wheel hub.
