Abstract
214,660. Gans, O. April 19, 1923, [Convention date]. Dolls.-In a walking doll, the joints between the legs and the body are arranged within the body and are so constructed that they allow both for the walking movement and for bringing the legs into the sitting position. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the ends of the legs are grooved to fit on to cylindrical surfaces a<2> on the body, the connecting-rods c of the walking mechanism passing through slots b in the surfaces a<2>. The rods c, and rods e which connect them with the walking mechanism, are pivoted on a spindle f by means of plates c<1>, e<1> respectively. The plate c<1> has a number of bosses h which engage in recesses on the plate e<1>, and the plates are kept in contact with one another by a spring g. Owing to the pressure of the spring, the connection between the plates is sufficiently tight to transmit the movement of the legs to the rods e, but the joint permits the rod c to be moved relatively to the rod e when it is desired to bend the legs into the sitting position. The legs may be connected to the body by ball and socket joints, the plates c<1>, e<1> being housed in recesses formed in the tops of the legs. In another construction, shown in Fig. 3, the leg is formed with an inclined surface which works against a similarly inclined surface on the body. A connecting-piece k, attached to the leg, has a flat surface l formed with recesses i which are engaged by bosses h on a plate e<1> on the operating rod e. A bolt in holds the plates in contact with one another and with the spring g. The plates c, e<1> with the bosses and recesses may be used as a joint for connecting the arms of a doll to the body.
