Abstract

326,542. Lingwood, F. D. Dec. 15, 1928. Presses, mechanical.-Toggle mechanism for operating presses, &c. comprises three links c, c', c<2>, in series, the end links being pivoted to the members to be relativelv moved and the middle link being actuated by a crank F, or an eccentric or cam, mounted on a shaft G placed so as to be asymmetric with reference to the pivotal connections D<1>, D<2> of the middle link when the three links have been brought into line, the arrangement being such tha.t in the final movement the link rocks about the pivot D' which comes into line before the pivot D<2>. The connecting rod E forms part of or is rigidly attached to the middle link c<1>. The operating arm H may be actuated manually or mechanically, the crank &c. F preferably being on a dead centre in the final position. A spring J may assist the return movement of the ram B. Two sets of the links may connect a single ram to two cranks at 180‹ apart on a single operating shaft.
