Abstract

276,910. Lemons, G. G. April 6, 1927. Converting rotary into reciprocating motion; racks.-A pinion i on a driving-shaft engages an internal endless rack a connected to a pump piston m or other member to be operated, the rack reciprocating in a frame h which is moved transversely at each end of the stroke. For this purpose the frame is slotted to engage guide and supporting rollers s and has pin and slot connections to parallel links o, o<1> mounted on pivots q and coupled by a link p. As the rack rises, a pin t thereon engages an extension of the rod o moving the frame to the left. When the rack reaches the bottom of the stroke, the rolling action of the pinion returns the frame to the position shown. The rack is formed of end segments c, d secured by screws f to straight parts a, the outer edges g being grooved to engage the frame h.
