Abstract

214,100. Alesbury, D. May 14, 1923. Spokes, securing and adjusting.-In vehicle wheels of the kind in which the inner ends of the spokes are wedge-shaped longitudinally and transversely, the outer ends of the spokes are provided with means for engaging in a rim, no felloe being used. The rim-engaging means may comprise a plate 10, Fig. 2, with projections 11 on one side driven into the end of a spoke, and a projection 12 on the other side which is passed through a hole in the rim 5 and riveted over. In manufacture, alternate spokes are placed with their projections engaging the rim, and their inner ends resting on a table 9<1>, the narrow ends of the transverse wedge-sections being upwards, as shown by the lower spokes, Figs. 2 and 3. The intermediate spokes are then engaged with the rim, their inner ends entering the wedge-shaped spaces 9, Fig. 3, between the other spokes. The ends 2 are then forced together laterally. The centre may then be bored and mounted on the axle, or hub bearing not shown. and secured thereto by bolts and side-plates in known manner.
