Abstract

China clay is made into a suspension with 80-200 per cent of water together with a small percentage of alkali silicate; the suspension is allowed to stand until at least 50 per cent of the clay has settled out, and the fine clay remaining in suspension is collected by means of a filter-press and may be washed and dried. The liquid to be filter-pressed should be of not less than 1.07 specific gravity, preferably 1.12-1.135, and the discarded portion of the clay may amount to about 80 per cent.
