Abstract

1350659 Zeolite Y AKZO NV 23 June 1971 [17 July 1970] 29452/71 Heading C1A A Y-type Na aluminosilicate zeolite having a molar SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 ratio of 4-6 is prepared from a reaction mixture containing a non-dried SiO 2 gel which in its dried state has a BET surface area of 20-180 m<SP>2</SP>/g'. The reaction mixture may have the composition and is prepared by mixing the SiO 2 gel with aqueous Na aluminate. The mixture may be digested at 10-50‹ C. and then crystallized at 70-120‹ C, and the product recovered by filtering, washing to pH 10-11, and drying at 120‹ C. The SiO 2 gel may be prepared by simultaneously adding aqueous Na silicate and H 2 SO 4 to water, maintaining the temperature at 78-80‹ C and the pH at 8À2-8À4. The pH is then adjusted to 2À5-3 with H 2 SO 4 , and the product filtered, washed and suction filtered at 50 mm. Hg and 15-30‹ C. It may be converted into a liquid suspension before use.
