528,374. Alkali silicates. FLORIDIENNE, J. BUTTGENBACH & CO. SOC. ANON. May 5, 1939, Nos. 13468 and 13469. Convention dates, May 5, 1938, and April 13, 1939. [Class 1 (iii)] Alkali silicates are obtained in the form of crystalline soluble powders by treating a solution of a silicate with a volatile precipitating or coagulating agent, e.g. an alcohol or acetone, removing liquid from the coagulate, e.g. in a press or filtering bag, reducing the resulting cake to powder and drying the powder with continuous stirring at not more than 45‹C. A powder obtained from a silicate solution containing about one molecule of Na 2 O to 3 parts SiO 2 may be dried to give a product containing 6 molecules of water of crystallization. Further dehydration may be effected at temperatures up to 100‹C.
