Guards, controlling.-In automatic guards for power presses, a shield 1, sliding on guide rails 3, has a pin-and-slot engagement 4, 5 with a cranked arm 6 engaging by a slot 8 a pin 9 on the ram 10. At or near its bend, the arm 6 is pivoted to a substantially horizontal lever 12 fulcrumed at 13 on the press frame and having a pin-andslot connection 14 with the ram. The arm 6 is divided, as shown at 22, and in order to give room for the largest dies the ends of the rails 3 are freed by releasing set-screws 21, the pin or bolt 23 coupling the two parts of the arm 6 is removed, and the rails are swung outwards about the pivot 16.
