Abstract

284,959. Burtchaell, S. W. Sept. 22, 1927. Sole-laying.-A sole-laying press comprises a frame 5 movable relatively to a shoe last 3 from a position beyond the last to a position in which the frame intersects the last, means acted on by the frame upon its downward movement pressing the sole against the last, and means for releasably retaining the frame in operative position. The frame 5 is pivoted at 6 to a plate 8 apertured to receive the tapered upper end 2 of the jack. A tubular elastic member 17 is carried by the frame to press the sole downwards. The last is provided with recesses 13 having off-set extensions to engage hooks 15 by which the last is detachably held to the plate 8. A pivoted latch 10 retains the frame in operative position. With the parts in the position shown, the press may be lifted off the jack and put aside until the adhesive has set, the jack being then available for use with another unit.
