Desks convertible into tables and combined with receptacles; desk slopes.-A table or desk with a flat top adapted to be held in sloping position has hinged to it an ink rail which is maintained horizontal by a parallel motion while the rear edge of the top 1 has no substantial backwards or forwards motion. The ink rail 2 is hinged to the main part of the top of the desk and is attached a plate 3, to which are pivoted at 4, 6 a finger guard 5 and levelling rail 7, themselves pivoted at 8, 9 to the desk frame so that the four pivot points form a parallelogram. In a modification, the pivot point 4 may be made to coincide with the hinge of the ink rail, which is in this case fastened to the finger guard 5. In a further modification, when no locker is required, the guards are omitted, the rear edge 19 of the top is hinged to the desk, and the hinge joining the ink rail and top forms the second top pivot. The top is located in the lower position by a bar 11 between the guides 5, the bar 11 resting on a fixed bar 12 on the desk, and in the upper position by pin-and-slot stays 13, and by a spring- pressed bar 15 on the ink rail, a tongue 151 on the bar 15 engaging a ledge 17 in the desk frame. The levelling rail 7 may be omitted, and pins on the plate 3 engage in slots in the sides of the desk. Specification 176,968 is referred to.
