Abstract

Desks convertible into tables; desk slopes. - A hinged top 1 is supported in a sloping position by a continuous support 3 hinged thereto and carrying a finger plate 4 controlled by a leaf or other spring 5 which tends t o swing the support 3 inwards. The lower end carries one or more projecting members 6 which engage corresponding recesses 7 on the frame and prevent the support 3 from being accidentally displaced. The side edges of the top are fitted with downwardly extending plates 8 which prevent finger-trapping and by engagement with plates 10 prevent the top from being raised too high. The tops may be provided with hinged flaps giving access to lockers beneath. Long heavy tops may be balanced by weights or springs and be raised by means of a shaft carrying cranks connected to the top by links.
