Submarine vessels. - The non-resistant shell L which surrounds the resistant turret A and is contoured to minimize the propelling resistance of the submarine when submerged is adapted to be used as a steering-house during surface navigations and as a water ballast tank when submerged. This end is achieved by connecting the pipes S with a supply of compressed air which when supplied to the chamber expels the water therein through the openings D communicating with the water of flotation. When the chamber is to be used as a ballast tank, the compressed air is allowed to escape by way of the door C controlled from within, the hull by the shaft E. Glass windows I are provided tofacilitate steering operations.
