Haymaking. - A combined sidedelivery hay-rake and swath-turner of the type comprising a series of rakes extending across the line of draught and supported upon rotatable carriers has in addition to the main series of rake-members 10 a second set 17 arranged behind the leading end or in front of the following end of the main set. The rake-members 10 are carried upon rotary spiders 11, 12 mounted in bearings in the main frame 13 which is supported on a forward castor wheel 14 and rear road wheels. The spider 11 is driven through bevel gearing 16 from the road wheel axle 15. The auxiliary set of rake-members 17 is carried upon spiders similarly to the main series and is driven from the main axle through gearing 20. The axis of rotation of the spider 11 is lower than that of the spider 12, but the brackets at the ends of the rake-bars are so proportioned that the rakes are horizontal. Each rake-bar of the main series is provided with two sets of pendent tines 25, 26. The tines 26 are fixed to bars secured by lugs and bolts to the main bars; these auxiliary bars are removed when the machine is used for turning swaths. The auxiliary set of rake-members 17 may be laterally-adjusted; the driving spindle of the rear spider is carried in a bracket which is movable with its associated gearing along the rear axle 15 and is maintained in its adjusted position by collars 31; the forward spider is rotatable on a pin adjustable in a slot in a bracket secured to the main frame. The auxiliary set of rake-members may be rendered inoperative by lifting it clear of the ground.
