Abstract

354,364. Haymaking. NICHOLSON, A. C., Trent Iron Works, Newark-on-Trent. May 8, 1930, No. 14110. [Class 6 (iii).] In a side-delivery rake or like machine of the type in which a number of rake bars extend obliquely across the machine, and are carried at their opposite ends by rotary flyers so that the tines of the rakes are maintained vertical, the rotary flyers being mounted on a supplementary frame that can be raised or lowered, the rear leg of the supplementary frame is so connected to a part behind the rear flyer as to permit of the radius of movement of the rear leg being varied during the raising and lowering of the frame. The machine is carried by rear wheels B driving an axle A from which main frame bars C extend over the rake bars E to a swivelling forward wheel D. A rear flyer G is mounted on a spindle V carried rotatably in a gearbox J pivoted on the axle A of the spindle being driven from the axle. The front flyer His rotatably mounted on a peg W fitted into a bracket K secured to the forward leg L<1> of the supplementary frame L. The frame L is carried by crank-arms M, N, mounted on a cross-shaft O adapted to be rocked in bearings Q, R, by a hand-lever P. The forward leg Ll is guided in its upward movement by a pin riding in an arcuate slot in a bracket U secured to the main frame. The radius of the arc is such that the front flyer H moves through part of a circle of which the centre is as far behind the front flyer as the centre of the axle A is behind the rear one, thus permitting the tines of the rakes to be maintained vertical through the lifting or lowering movement. The rear leg L<2> of the supplementary frame is connected to the cam J through links Z and a smaller amount of lift is given to this leg by making the rear crank N shorter than the forward one M. To adjust the distance of the rakes from the ground the frame L may be attached to the cranks, as shown in Fig. 5. The frame-bar passes through an eye M<1> on a bolt that may be adjusted in position by nuts M<2>, M<3>. The crank may be secured by a pivot M<5> to the fitting on the rod O.
