Haymaking.-In a swath-turner and sidedelivery rake or hay-collector, the tines are fitted in slotted holes near the edges of rotary discs or their equivalents so that they may rise and fall on uneven ground, and are arranged approximately horizontal with their ends pointing backwards, so that they are withdrawn from the hay whilst in horizontal positions by the forward movement of the machine. The frame a ismounted on two main wheels c and a castor wheel c', the driver's seat h being at the back. The tine-carrying discs m are fixed on tubes k mounted on non-rotary shafts l adjustably supported by the axle b and a notched cross-bar f. The tubes k are rotated by the reversible bevelgearing shown. In a modification, the shafts l may be rotated instead of the tubes k. The long tines n are fitted in tapered slots s, Fig. 3, in the disc m. Their heads enter a groove t, and a second disc o is bolted to the back of the disc m. The tines may be straight or slightly curved outwards. They may have shoulders to hold them in position, or may be mounted on pivots which may be long enough to pass through several tine heads. A wheel may be mounted on an inclined support adapted to be brought into a vertical position for raising the tines from the ground; or castor wheels may be mounted at the ends of theshafts l.
